Woodbine Entertainment, Ontario’s leading horse racing company, unveiled its Winter Series schedule at Woodbine Mohawk Park this week. The firm revealed further information regarding the track’s forthcoming closure program, as well as the addition of four new racing events to the calendar at Milton’s horse racing racetrack.
The Winter Series, which will take place at Woodbine Mohawk Park from December to March next year, will include 10 racing events. With each of them, there are two preliminary legs and a cash final. Nominations for the contests will be accepted until December 1, 2021, according to the firm.
Additions to the Collection
Woodbine Entertainment has opted to incorporate a pair of claiming series for Ontario-sired four-year-olds, as well as the events Ontario Boys and Ontario Girls for Ontario-sired four-year-olds, in the 2019 winter races at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The horse that joined the claiming series will be eligible to be claimed in all legs of the events, according to the firm.
The four new events will be added to the existing Niagara, Valedictory, Blizzard, Snowshoe, Wine & Roses, and Family Day activities. Ontario is setting the pace in the new year. One of the new entrants is for four-year-old pacers, with the first leg scheduled for January 1, 2021, the second on Saturday, January 8, and the final on Saturday, January 15.
In 2022, there will also be a New Year Claiming Trot for Ontario Sire four-year-old trotters. The first leg will take place on January 3, 2022, followed by the second leg on January 10, 2022, and the final on January 17. Non-winners of $60,000 lifetime as of midnight October 31, 2022, for three and four-year-old trotting colts, horses, and geldings. Legs will be available on February 7 and 14. The final will take place on February 21.
On February 17, the first leg of the Ontario Girls for Ontario Sired four-year-old pacing mares will take place, followed by the second leg on February 24, and the final on March 3. Then there’s the Ontario Boys for four-year-old pacing horses and geldings sired in Ontario who haven’t won CA$75,000 before October 31, 2021. The event’s first leg will take place on February 18, the second on February 25, and the final will take place on March 4, 2022.
Another Edition Has Been Confirmed
Woodbine Entertainment recently expressed its delight with the second running of the Mohawk Million race, which took place at the Woodbine Mohawk Million race track this summer. Jim Lawson, the company’s CEO, said he is happy with the level of interest in the event this year and is already alerting horse owners and breeders that the event will be held again next summer.
The Queen’s Plate has an impressive wagering volume.
This summer, Ontario’s horse racing leader hosted the 162nd edition of The Queen’s Plate, one of the country’s oldest and most important horse racing events. The business claimed that the race card generated approximately CA$16.1 million in wagering handle on the Sunday when the event was held at its Woodbine Racetrack.
