The two casinos in Niagara Falls are expected to resume their operations in late July, according to the New York State Gaming Commission. The commission said in a news release it will work with the two casinos to ensure they are “in compliance with all the state gaming regulations and state laws.”

On Friday, July 6, 2017, Canandaigua and Niagara Falls will be imploded and demolished. This implosion was originally going to take place on April 23, 2014, but was postponed due to an ice storm that hit the area. The two casinos will be imploded by crews from Controlled Demolition Incorporated (CDI), a company specializing in the demolition of structures.

As Ontario enters the third phase of its economic stimulus package, casinos may also resume operations. Fallsview Casino Resort and the province’s Casino Niagara will officially open to the public after their closure in March 2020. The grand opening will take place on July 23 at 10:00 am and on July 21 and 22 at 10:00 pm. July, there will be exclusive events in advance at both hotels.

Both Niagara casinos have been closed since March 2020, following the first wave of an unprecedented situation. However, none of the casinos reopened when the county allowed the reopening of gambling establishments with a maximum capacity of 50 people. Management believed that the player limit would not be sustainable given the usual volume of transactions.

Close on return

In a recent statement, Richard Taylor, president of Niagara Casinos, said the company looks forward to welcoming back its visitors and employees, but that health and safety will remain top priorities. Sir, I want to thank you for your support. Taylor also thanked everyone for the sacrifices and efforts over the past 16 months to make sure the casinos are open on the 23rd. July can be safely reopened.

Both facilities will now operate under very specific and strict rules to prevent the spread of the virus. Guests must use pulse cards to enter the room for contact tracking. Protective masks will be mandatory for customers and staff. In addition, a spatial distance of at least 2 metres must be maintained between them.

As an additional measure, the casino will provide all customers with alcohol-based hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes. There will also be physical barriers where it is possible to separate players and staff. Workers are regularly monitored for high temperatures and receive special training on the new rules and conditions.

Fallsview Casino Resort will be open 24 hours a day and will offer a lobby, game room, slot machines, electronic table games, select dining options, parking, and Galleria shops and restaurants. Casino Niagara will reopen daily from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. and will feature slot machines, electronic table games, the Perks Café and Chill Bar. The poker room and table games will not be available yet.

Safety plan

To prepare for an unprecedented situation, both casinos have made every effort to make the gaming environment as safe as possible. The owner of Niagara Casinos has invested C$1 million in a security plan and protocols for the facility. The company also worked closely with Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Williams, over the summer. However, the resumption of work has been delayed.

Local contribution

Under normal circumstances, Casino Niagara and Niagara Fallsview Casino contribute significantly to the local economy and generate significant tax revenues for the state. According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, both casinos could operate from 1. July to the 30th. September 2019 over $6,057,544 CAD in contributions to the local treasury.
