The internet is evolving to the point where it is no longer necessary to go to a specific location to play poker. In many ways, the internet is a good thing. However, it also has its downsides. One of these downsides is that it is impossible to be completely anonymous online unless you are highly skilled at disguising your identity. The PA Poker Network is changing that with the launch of WSOP.com in the state, and players are reacting positively to the new features.

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has launched a new poker resource site, WSOP.com. The site is the first poker resource site specifically created for state-regulated online poker players, and it’s part of a larger movement by the PPA to promote online poker in regulated markets. WSOP.com features news and other resources for poker players in regulated markets, including a section dedicated to the Pennsylvania market, which is the first regulated online poker market to launch. On October 9, 2015, the “PokerNews” website announced that it had hired a blogger, Chris Grove, to exclusively cover PokerStars sponsored events, and that he would soon be available to write articles for “PokerNews”. Official online poker play for the World Series of Poker began Monday in Pennsylvania. WSOP.com now offers online poker players in the state a third option.

After lunch, the players began to download the app and start the game. During the soft launch, players could participate in cash games and multi-table tournaments during the testing period.

The site went live at 2 p.m. and USPoker spoke with several players about their experiences on the site.

WSOP.comIntroduction Details

WSOP.com players in Pennsylvania are initially subject to a registration process. This means that they can only compete with others in the country. This may change if more states sign an interstate agreement. The Justice Department recently missed the deadline for appealing a decision on the wiretapping law.

In January, a federal appeals court ruled that the law applies only to sports betting. This paves the way for the extension of intergovernmental treaties. And until these issues are resolved, Pennsylvania players will have to settle for playing in other states.

WSOP.com currently hosts the WSOP Online in New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware and awards bracelets to the winners of the series. The site also regularly hosts WSOP Circuit tournaments where championship rings are awarded.

Not sure if they will be part of PA plans as long as the state remains a segregated market. Nevertheless, a series of major tournaments seems likely in the near future.

WSOP.com will have limited hours in Pennsylvania this week as part of a soft launch. The site was available Monday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Here’s a look at the rest of the week before the full launch on Friday.

  • Tuesday: 12:00 to 22:00
  • Wednesday: noon to midnight
  • Thursday: Opening hours to be determined

WSOP.com also launched a new software platform in Pennsylvania. The WSOP has partnered with 888poker and uses the WSOP software.

The new Poker 8 platform will make its debut and should have a more modern look. The new platform has received good reviews so far.

Hunter Miller, 23, lives in Kutztown, PA, and is a full-time student. He has been playing poker for two years and has won over $80,000 on PokerStars and partypoker. Fortunately, the Keystone State has another option.

I’m very happy to have a third option, and also the chance to qualify for some WSOP live events, he said.

On Monday, Miller was one of the first to load up and start playing. After logging in, he discovered that a $0.25/$0.50 cash game was in progress.

I think the software is an improvement over the old WSOP software I played with in Nevada and New Jersey, he said. The software is very clean and easy to use. I look forward to seeing the site grow and eventually merge with other markets.

Despite the general lack of liquidity, Miller believes it is a good time for online gamblers in Pennsylvania.

Being such a young player in this game – all these new experiences are different than those who have been in poker for a long time, he said. I feel very spoiled by the fact that, firstly, I can play poker online legally and, secondly, I can choose from different variants of the three legalized sites.

After playing some on Monday, Miller spotted a promotional opportunity on the site. WSOP.com has scheduled a $50,000 freeroll that includes two tickets to the $10,000 Main Event in Las Vegas. A third ticket will also be randomly awarded to players.

Jim Stressman, 50, is a recreational player from Philadelphia and likes to play poker with small stakes. He works in a supermarket and also took part in Monday’s action.

Early in his WSOP.com career, Stressman played in a $5 tournament and finished sixth for $24. When he played on Monday, he said the software made the experience enjoyable.

The site looks good… Except I don’t see any chat options when we play, he said. I really like the game Blast Poker, it is a unique way to play. The bonuses are also very good.

The Blast Tournament is a four-handed super-turbo sit-and-go. The prize pool is determined by a draw at the beginning of each tournament. This amount varies from 2 to 10,000 times the buy-in. Once the explosion timer is over, players on each hand enter the game.

In addition to these aspects, Stressman also appreciated the longer registration time on WSOP.com than on some other sites.

This will give more players a chance to play and increase the prize pool, he said.

Other players on social media have been generally positive about the platform so far.

With three operators (WSOP.com, PokerStars and partypoker), it will be interesting to see how the events go. Competition in the recruiting industry is sure to increase, and it remains to be seen how this will affect traffic and monthly revenue.
