During a high stakes match between poker legend Phil “Unabomber” Hellmuth and FOX Sports’ poker expert Nick “Wrightwood” Wright in a $25,000 buy-in no-limit Texas Hold ’em tournament, Hellmuth made a huge blunder, helping his opponent to double down with a card that ultimately cost him the game.

On October 10th, young poker player Nick Wright will be taking on Phil Hellmuth in a high stakes poker tournament at the Aria Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The event, hosted by FOX Sports, will pit Hellmuth and Wright against each other in a $1,000 buy-in tournament, making it the most expensive poker tournament in history.

Is Phil Hellmuth capable of making it seven in a row? Many in the poker community are asking this topic as the 15-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner prepares to compete in another High Stakes Duel match on PokerGO.

The Poker Brat will face Nick Wright, host of FOX Sports’ First Things First, in this episode, which will air on Wednesday. Despite the fact that Wright is not a professional, he thinks he can shake things up in a manner that professionals may not be able to do against Hellmuth.

“Phil has had a lot of success in this tournament playing against pros who obviously believe they’re better than him, but now he has to face an amateur who doesn’t believe that,” Wright told PokerGO. “I’m nearly incalculably worse than Phil at all kinds of poker, especially this one, which he seems to have perfected. That, I believe, will work in my advantage. It’s possible that it’ll throw him off.”

With skilled, seasoned professionals like Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari falling in three consecutive sets, it looks like a big task. Hellmuth, on the other hand, had some tooth problems earlier this week.

Will Hellmuth’s performance be hampered by the canine conundrum? Fans of the game will be waiting to see how it all plays out.

Examining the challenger

Wright is no stranger to the PokerGO Studio or to the poker table. Both contestants will appear in the network’s forthcoming eight-episode Poker After Dark series.

Wright stated, “Phil and I have played previously, and he believes he’s picked up a lot of my physical tells.” “Little does he realize that I had this match in mind all along, and I was simply preparing him for the long haul. Is he really going to read this? “Damn you.”

He now takes center stage against Hellmuth. From his victories against Esfandiari and Negreanu, the current High Stakes Duel champion has already earned $700,000. Wright voiced his enthusiasm at the prospect of going head-to-head with Hellmuth in Las Vegas.

To be serious for a minute, being chosen as Phil’s next opponent is one of the biggest honors of my life,” he added. “I’ve built a career out of talking about the’men in the arena,’ as Teddy Roosevelt called it, but I’ve never been able to be in one myself.

“Now, for at least one night, and maybe more, I get to be in that arena and compete against not just the greatest in the world, but the best in global history. “I really can’t wait.”

Here’s all you need to know about the match:

  • 28th of June
  • Las Vegas is the location.
  • 8:00 p.m. (ET)
  • PokerGO is a poker network.
  • $100,000 ($50,000 apiece) is on the line.
  • 50,000 chips are the starting chips.

Will the dental issue have an impact on the contest and Hellmuth’s snack consumption?

On Monday, some dental dynamics were thrown into the mix. Hellmuth had a toothache during the weekend and went to the dentist the next day.

On Twitter, Hellmuth said, “Fortunately, the ‘bad infection’ was detected today just before it reached my sinus nerves (it was deep).” “I had to undergo a root canal and am on antibiotics as a result. I’m OK, but I’m worried about those of you who are in the same situation. If you’re in discomfort, make an appointment with your dentist!”

Hellmuth has made it a habit to eat at the table during the first six matches. From hamburgers to mixed nuts to Sour Patch Kids, there was something for everyone.

Following the dental surgery, and with a large sum of money on the line, many concerns arise. Will his PokerGO diet consist only of soft foods? Will he switch to applesauce and milkshakes from his dual diet?

Any lingering discomfort may be a concern. Will his opponent be able to dig his fangs into the Brat as a result of this? Wright thinks Hellmuth is busy, and that this presents an opportunity for him to succeed at the table.

“My conclusion from this whole conversation is that Hellmuth is so unconcerned about our match that he’s arranging significant dental surgery only days before it,” he tweeted. “Sad!”

With the addition of a recreational player at the table, the action promises to be exciting. Will Wright be able to break the streak? His admirers will soon find out.
