Michael Hammers is a professional poker player and has been playing poker professionally since 2003. He is also a member of the PASCOOP team that has won $1,000,000 in 2017.
Going all in as a poker pro might be difficult for certain players. During the epidemic, however, Michael Hammers was dealt some awful cards and had to make a decision.
Everyone was impacted differently by the epidemic, and Hammers’ IT company suffered as a result. That meant more time at the Pennsylvania online poker tables.
“Pretty much as a direct consequence of the epidemic, I’m here playing professional poker,” Hammers adds. “I’ve always experimented in many things. But when my IT career became too much for me, I realized it was time to go serious about poker.”
About six months ago, Hammers began focused aggressively on the online grind. On WSOP.com and PokerStars PA, the 37-year-old from York grinds every day.

Hammers goes under the aliases “Laxethis” and “$toopid7” on the internet. He began his online poker career with a minimal bankroll and is now concentrating on bankroll management.
A strong PokerStars run recently boosted both his confidence and his cash. In the Sunday Special, he came in second place for $8,700.
Another significant win came in the PokerStars PASCOOP series. His efforts were rewarded when he won the $5,000 guaranteed launch event. For his achievement, Hammers received $1,300 and a trophy.

In 2022, the poker-playing IT man is serious about putting in the effort and putting in the time to take his game to the next level.
“I intend to participate in as many online and live events as I can,” he says. “In this industry, if you don’t put in the volume, you won’t win very often.” And that’s no way to have a good time!”
At live events, hammering away
At the table, Michael Hammers is slugging it out.
Despite the fact that he believes himself to be more of an online gamer, Hammers has shown that he can play live as well. He’s won seven live events since January.
On a recent trip to Maryland Live for the State Poker Championships, he went on a three-day tear, making three final table appearances. Among them were:
- Deepstack $400 – third place for $2,937
- $500 Mystery Bounty – second place for $2,393
- Bounty of $200 – fifth place for $1,333
From video games to Texas Hold’em, there’s something for everyone.
Hammers’ poker career took an unexpected turn. A large part was performed by several pals and the video game Halo.
“We used to get together to play back when Halo was huge, around the time Halo 2 came out, 18 years ago,” Hammers explains. “Then the proprietor of the house began holding $5 Texas Hold’em tournaments.”
“Looking back, those games seemed like the greatest fun I’ve ever had playing anything — slugging it out with our wits since that’s all we had.” There is no actual grasp of the game. “It’s all down to luck and guts.”
He earned some “stoopid” money a few years later by lending his buddy money in the casino one night. One of his internet screen identities came up as a result of that stroke of luck.
He explains, “I borrowed a pal $100 to play poker at Delaware Park.” “He ended up winning $51,700 on the bad beat jackpot.”

Hammers’ screen name may be Lazethis, but his work ethic is anything but. He’s presently rated 22nd in profit for 2022 at PokerStars PA, according to online poker tracker SharkScope.

“I like broadcasting because it drives me to improve my game and allows me to play a bit more aggressively when online,” Hammers explains. “I also like being able to promote poker and encourage others to play.”
On his days off from streaming and playing, Hammers studies and actually hits the books.
He exclaims, “Books, Books, and More Books.” “I absorb things, not simply read them.” I make an effort to devote two days every week to studying. Mondays and Tuesdays are generally the quietest days of the week, with the lowest number of players.”
Hammers also aims to drift away from competitions in the future. His ambition is to gain enough money to help others.
“My ultimate objective is to become a high-stakes cash game player and then donate the money where it will assist the most people,” he adds.
