The Canadian province of Québec selected new directors for the Loto-Québec board of directors, its publicly owned lottery operator, at its annual general meeting Thursday. This year, the board will consist of 12 non-executive directors, as well as the acting CEO and three new members.

Quebec has indicated that there will be personnel changes in the management of Lotto-Quebec. The county’s cabinet has chosen Ann MacDonald as the next chair of the state corporation’s board of directors. Ms McDonald had been a member of the Board of Directors since March 2019 and will now take up a new role.

Ms. MacDonald has the difficult task of guiding the state agency through one of its most difficult periods. The company suffered severe financial setbacks as its casinos closed due to the unprecedented situation in 2020. But the qualifications of the new president will be critical to rebuilding the agency.

New seat

Yesterday, June 24, 2021, the Provincial Cabinet announced that it had officially appointed Ms. MacDonald as the next Chairperson of the Lotto-Québec Board of Directors. Ms. MacDonald is more than qualified for this position, having held the positions of Director of Business Development and Sales and Director of Project Management at Bombardier Transportation during her career.

Corona’s President and CEO, Jean-François Bergeron, and the Board of Directors congratulated Ms. McDonald on her new promotion. Mr. Bergeron explained that the new Corporation President has already brought her skills, qualifications, and strategic vision to bear on the Borough’s public service. Prior to joining Crown, she was also a Senior Consultant at VIA Rail and Director of Operations at BONE Structure.

Ms. MacDonald succeeds current Chairman of the Board, Ellen F. Fortin, who has held the position since 2008. Fortin, who has held the position since 2008. CEO Bergeron also thanked Ms. Fortin for her commitment to the Crown. He said she has shown impeccable attitude and consistency during her tenure. He added that Ms. Fortin has been very supportive of the company’s presidents.

The company’s new president will have to steer it in the direction of the recent expansion of gambling in the country. This week, the Senate officially passed bill C-218, which allows sports fans and bettors to bet on certain sporting events. The Quebec regulator will take advantage of the changes to the Criminal Code and make such offers available to many players soon.

Re-opening of premises

Despite the past 15 tumultuous months, Loto Quebec is on the mend as the state agency has begun reopening its gambling locations across the province. This was made possible as Quebec’s economic recovery plan entered a new phase. The Casino de Mont-Tremblant and the Salon de jeux de Québec are scheduled for the 21st. June is expected. The Montreal Casino will open later on the 30th. June, back.

FINANCIAL YEAR 2020-21

Last year was a particularly difficult one for Loto-Québec, and the financial statements published by the company confirm this. In fiscal year 2020-2021, the agency experienced a significant decrease in revenue as its gaming operations were unable to operate for most of the year due to the unprecedented situation. In the last fiscal year, the company was able to generate only one-third of its revenue for fiscal year 2019-20.
