Professional poker players Hellmuth and Negreanu are set to face off in a massive showdown of the highest stakes duel in the history of the game this week. The winner takes home a cool $400,000, while the loser is all out of pocket. Last week, the two legends battled it out for the top prize of $200,000 in a match that broke the previous record for most chips bet in a single hand. Neither player had any intentions of losing; the two were neck and neck until the very end, where Hellmuth was able to pull away.

There’s a big match this weekend in Hollywood, and you don’t want to miss it. Hellmuth and Negreanu are about to square off in a high stakes duel match! This is only the second time in history that both players have agreed to play on the same week, but it could be the last time they ever play a hands-on match against each other. If you want to see the match, get your tickets early!

In the third and final qualifying final of the 2017 World Series of Poker, Antonio Esfandiari and Erik Seidel will face off in the high stakes duel match. The match will take place in the Main Event of the 2017 World Series of Poker, which will be the last of the 2017 WSOP.

PokerGO presents the third duel between Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu this week. There is $400,000 at stake when these two players take on each other in a high-stakes duel on Wednesday.

With Hellmuth having beaten Antonio Esfandiari in three consecutive games and now having beaten Negreanu twice in a row, there will be plenty of bragging rights at stake.

According to Negreanu, he played well in both games, but slacked off a bit at the end of each session. What’s he up to now?

Subtle techniques, but honestly, the strategy works except for the part that actually wins, he told USPoker. I dominated both games and was unlucky in both.

Negreanu remains confident

On Friday, both players reappeared on the No Gamble, No Future podcast. Hellmuth and Negreanu brought a lot of atmosphere to the show.

Negreanu returns to the table after what he says was a disappointing US Poker Open. He said he lost the last 12 all-in hands he played in this series.

Kid Poker hopes to turn things around this week against Poker Brat. Negreanu took Hellmuth’s ego to task and analyzed Hellmuth’s possible sixth win in a row.

We already know Phil Hellmuth, we know he has a reasonable ego, if he wins again – beats Antonio and beats me – he might explode, Negreanu said on the podcast. We could have a big bang theory, a poker version where his head explodes into pieces.

We can’t let that happen. For the sake of humanity, we must not let Phil win again, because after this there is no turning back.

Despite these two defeats, Negreanu is still convinced that he can beat Hellmuth. He talked about watching the first two games to follow Hellmuth’s play. According to Negreanu, it gave him food for thought and he plans to make some adjustments in the final game.

I’m not nervous about my game, I’m not nervous about how I’m going to play, I’m not nervous about the decisions I’m going to make, he said. In what is under my control, I am very, very confident.

Hellmuth continues to win by playing the heads-up strategy with hearts.

If Hellmuth wins this game, he can cash out and walk away. If Negreanu wins, Hellmuth could be back in the running for the $800,000. However, Hellmuth confirmed that if Negreanu won, this match would be his swan song.

It’s just a super important match for me and there’s a lot of pressure on Daniel and me because he can’t challenge me anymore and I can’t challenge him anymore, he said. It’s like the winner gets everything.

I have no doubt Daniel will play very well in the next game, so it’s a real challenge.

Hellmuth used several bluffs in the second game, Negreanu noted, which was different from his play in the first event.

On No Gamble, No Future, Negreanu gave some statistics on Hellmuth’s play. Poker Brat seemed less interested in the statistics, but said he had seen both games. Hellmuth seems to approach his game in a more deliberate style. He’s less interested in the statistics and in-depth analysis you see in some of the recent heads-up challenges.

I think about poker differently than almost every other person on the planet, for better or worse, he said. And so I start thinking about some (strategic) things. Which specific (things), I don’t know. There is so much about heads-up play that I have never been able to talk to anyone about my heads-up strategy.

Although I’ve talked to a few people about poker strategy in the past, one thing I can never do is discuss heads-up strategy with them because….. I feel like I have a good strategy, and until I lose a few times, I’m not sure I want to change it.

Poker players give their own analysis of the game

If Hellmuth doesn’t return to the High Stakes Duel table, Tom Dwan will be the next player. USPoker contacted several players to see how they would handle Hellmuth in a heads-up scenario.

Four-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Sean Deeb takes an aggressive approach. He thinks it’s important to take advantage of some of Hellmuth’s tight games.

I would continue to raise his bets after the flop, on the turn and on the river, he said. He loves traps so much. It’s difficult to assess his terrain accurately.

With four World Poker Tour titles under his belt, Darren Elias has proven that he has some serious heads-up skills. He is currently competing in the WPT Heads-Up online and has expressed interest in the High Stakes Duel. He used the same approach as Deeb, but made a few key mistakes.

Although I haven’t had a chance to watch games, I think Phil probably plays too tight at most points and severely underestimates his bluffs, he said.

If I were playing against an opponent like that, I would try to make a lot of exploitative mistakes on the hero when he puts a lot of money in the pot, and pressure him in the places where he plays passively. Who’s next? While Hellmuth has arguably been the most popular player in the world of poker during the past few years, he’s still not at the top of the mountain. That’s the position Negreanu has earned, and it’s a fitting place for the two to co-exist. At the same time, it’s also a reminder that Hellmuth is still the best player in the world, and he’s not going away anytime soon..
