The Georgian Downs season is underway and today is the first day of play. The total prize pool is $460,000 and each of the top 2 will receive a share of $140,000, with the remaining prize pool being paid to the winner of the tournament. There are 130 players in the field and all of them are hoping to come to the winner’s circle.

Georgian Downs is well known for its “No Limit Holdem” tournaments, and this years tournament started this morning. Those who have been watching the poker scene in Australia will know that this tourney is not a “small event” and that it is often the number 1 tournament for the month. Now, obviously, every year there are a few upsets, but it is expected that the majority of the field will be made up of “famous” players from around the world. This year, one of the “famous” players is Tuan Lam, a poker pro from Canada. Tuan Lam won the WSOP Main Event, and he also has the most WSOP bracelets (5), and is the only player to have won

Today is the first day of poker year for the Georgian Downs season. For the past few years, the season starts out slowly with few events, few cashes and few live tournaments. This year, the season is starting off rather well, with 8 events, including the MEGA MILLIONS and the MONEY MAKER tournaments. The MEGA MILLIONS is a $40,000 buy-in event, while the MONEY MAKER is $50,000.

The racing season at Georgian Downs is about to begin and fans and coaches alike are eager to see how the season will unfold. There will be live horse racing on the 6th. July at the official opening of the Innisfil racecourse. The season begins with five Grassroots divisions worth C$22,000 for two-year-olds and three Prospect Series divisions worth C$7,200 for three-year-olds.

Thanks to a plan to revitalize Ontario’s economy, car racing in the province may resume after a two-month hiatus due to April’s shutdown order. But now Georgian Downs is ready to start its racing season. Tuesday’s program begins at 7:15 p.m. with the steaks for two-year-old fillies and continues with Grassroots races 2, 4, 5 and 7.

Fascinating Calendar

Trainer Murray Brethur is responsible for three two-year-olds who will make their racing debut in the Grassroots division of the Ontario Sires Stakes. According to him, Creme Delight, Shortys Girl and Goudawon are more than ready to launch their careers as they were diligent students during their initial training.

It is Crème Délicieuse who is part of Mr. B’s starting team. Brethour is on the oval as the mare is second in the C$22,150 Grassroots division. The horse is a daughter of The Bettors Delight and has only one qualifier to her name so far – a third place in 1:59.4 at Kawartha Downs on the 26th. June. But the coach is concerned that she is a few lengths behind her classmates.

Bretur is training the filly for his daughter Rachel Bretur of Sunderland, Dean Lockhart and Wayne Carleton of Collingwood, and Dean Campbell of Orleans, Ont. who purchased the horse at the Ontario Select Yearling Sale last year. Shortys Girl and Goudawon have already qualified twice – on June 19 at Kawartha Downs and on June 24 at the same venue. June at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

The trainer will also run two three-year-olds in the Ontario Racing Prospect Series in Tuesday’s season opener. First up was Carwin’s Lucky Luna at post 4 in the first division, followed by Money Honey at post 4 in the final division. He comes after a 1:55.4 victory at Kawartha Downs on June 26, his first of five starts in the series.

Large departure

Another racetrack in Ontario has already opened its season with the first live harness race at Kawartha Downs in June after the sport was suspended. The Fraserville oval was built on the 12th. June is officially back in action, and the track opened the heats with a $5,000 CAD Pace contest. Trainer and rider Mario Baillargeon won the event with a best time of 1:52.2 on his horse First Glance.

Some of the province’s leading equestrian centres welcomed fans to their grounds. Woodbine Entertainment recently announced that Woodbine Racetrack and Woodbine Mohawk Part will admit spectators at 25% of their maximum capacity. In addition to shopping, visitors can also dine on the terrace, but reservations must be made in advance.
